About the position

The Chief of Staff at Bluefield State University plays a crucial role in supporting the Interim President by managing scheduling, financial, and operational activities. This position requires close collaboration with senior staff and the Cabinet to ensure efficient decision-making and effective communication across the institution. The Chief of Staff is responsible for organizing critical issues, preparing reports, and facilitating the implementation of strategic objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and directs all administrative, financial, and operational activities for the President.
  • Serves as principal aide to the President, supporting interactions with faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders.
  • Facilitates communication among the management team to ensure timely implementation of objectives.
  • Acts as the President's liaison, ensuring accurate information flow between offices and executives.
  • Ensures compliance with federal/state regulations and institutional policies.
  • Gathers, researches, and analyzes information affecting university operations; prepares confidential correspondence.
  • Reviews and summarizes administrative information and prepares reports for key personnel.
  • Compiles information into reports, presentations, and speeches for the President.
  • Creates briefing documents and executive summaries for meetings and events.
  • Participates in key meetings to guide strategy and policy, ensuring follow-up and accountability.
  • Develops and delivers complex presentation materials and recommends operational strategies to senior leadership.
  • Monitors project costs and performance to ensure goals are met.
  • Participates in accreditation activities and prepares various administrative and financial reports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in higher education administration, public administration, business management, or related field required; Master's preferred.
  • At least 10 years of progressively responsible management experience in higher education administration, including fiscal operations and budgeting administration.
  • Demonstrated experience in report writing and data analysis skills.
  • Ability to apply and utilize software and technology to develop creative solutions.
