About the position

The Chief of Staff at New Mexico State University serves as a key member of the President's senior staff, providing executive-level support and acting as a trusted advisor to the President. This role involves overseeing operational, administrative, and financial matters within the President's office, leading strategic initiatives, and representing the President to various stakeholders. The Chief of Staff is responsible for managing the President's calendar, coordinating special projects, and ensuring alignment with the University's strategic goals.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a chief aide to the President, providing confidential executive-level support.
  • Advise the President on policy, procedural, and operational issues.
  • Lead the operationalization of strategic initiatives for the President.
  • Represent the President to senior vice presidents and external constituents.
  • Participate in strategy development, institutional planning, and policy development.
  • Coordinate special projects involving senior officers and external stakeholders.
  • Write confidential reports and prepare executive summaries and correspondence.
  • Manage the President's calendar and activities, including travel and itineraries.
  • Oversee several departments, including Marketing and Communications, Public Safety, and Government Relations.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Business or a related technical field.
  • Fifteen years of increasingly progressive management experience or ten years as a senior executive in business or research management.
  • Knowledge of principles, procedures, regulations, and standards applicable to the job.
  • Skills in strategy development, problem analysis, report preparation, and communication.
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships and maintain accurate records.
