About the position

The Chief of Staff position at the New York City Mayor's Office to End Domestic and Gender-Based Violence (ENDGBV) is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing the operational efficiency and effectiveness of the office. This position requires a strategic leader who can provide sound judgment on confidential personnel matters across ENDGBV's six sites. The Chief of Staff will report directly to the Commissioner of ENDGBV and will be a key member of the office's executive leadership team, with two direct reports. The role involves acting as the central coordinator for critical personnel functions and ensuring that City Hall priorities are executed effectively. In this capacity, the Chief of Staff will provide strategic advice to the Commissioner and serve as a key liaison to City Hall, facilitating collaboration among other members of the executive team as necessary. The Chief of Staff will support emergency management, operational and administrative functions, and the development and implementation of office-wide policies and procedures. A significant aspect of the role includes developing systems that promote efficiency, equity, and effectiveness in the office's work. The Chief of Staff will also oversee and manage special projects, events, and communications initiatives, ensuring that appropriate goals and timelines are met. This includes ensuring intra-office coordination and fostering positive relationships and communication between all ENDGBV teams and sites. Additionally, the Chief of Staff will lead efforts related to facilities and technology, human resources, and internal equity initiatives, acting as a liaison to various departments and managing internal HR tasks such as performance evaluations, staffing, and diversity initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the operational efficiency and effectiveness of the Office to End Domestic and Gender-Based Violence.
  • Provide strategic advice to the Commissioner as a member of the Executive Team.
  • Act as key liaison to City Hall and support emergency management and operational functions.
  • Develop systems to promote efficiency, equity, and effectiveness in the Office's work.
  • Oversee and manage special projects, events, and communications initiatives.
  • Ensure intra-office coordination and promote positive relationships between all ENDGBV Teams and Sites.
  • Serve as a liaison to facilities and oversee staff seating and tech requests.
  • Manage internal human resource related tasks, including performance evaluations and hiring/onboarding.
  • Act as a diversity, equity, and inclusion coordinator within ENDGBV.
  • Serve as the main liaison to Mayor's Office EEO and DSS/HRA EEO Team.

Requirements

  • Relevant advanced degree required.
  • 4+ years of experience within NYC government agencies.
  • Demonstrated interest in the fields of domestic and/or gender-based violence.
  • 2+ years of management experience required.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, and program management software (i.e. SharePoint).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in policy development and implementation.
  • Familiarity with community outreach and engagement strategies.
  • Knowledge of citywide equity initiatives.
