About the position

The Chief of Staff (COS) at the US Department of Veterans Affairs is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the management and operational efficiency of healthcare services provided to veterans. The COS plays a crucial role in developing management objectives, ensuring compliance with regulations, and promoting quality improvement within the medical center. This position requires a strong commitment to patient care, resource management, and collaboration with various stakeholders to enhance the overall healthcare experience for veterans.

Responsibilities

  • Support organizational efficiency and safety through oversight and program management of the medical center inter-facility transfers process.
  • Provide an environment that fosters patient care, educational activity, and administrative planning and evaluation based on current knowledge integration.
  • Ensure that facility programs reflect the mission and priorities of the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
  • Participate in the allocation of facility resources and modification of programs to meet the needs of the Veteran population.
  • Monitor and promote compliance with VA regulations and professional standards regarding outside professional activities and ethical conduct.
  • Create an environment of continuous quality improvement, evaluating program and quality of care effectiveness.
  • Promote effective communication and relationships between the facility and its affiliates to meet affiliation agreement requirements.
  • Encourage and support research within ethical and administrative standards, ensuring dissemination of findings.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree from an accredited institution.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted medical license from any US State or territory.
  • Completion of a pharmacy residency or equivalent training.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior-level medical position.
  • Board Certified/Board Eligible (BC/BE) status.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
