About the position

The Chief of Staff will report directly to the President of the MTA Construction & Development and will play a crucial role in coordinating management functions across the agency. This position focuses on strategic planning, policy development, and ensuring the successful execution of a significant annual capital program valued at approximately $10-15 billion. The Chief of Staff will also manage cross-agency coordination, oversee special projects, and maintain productive relationships with industry partners and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure departments are working as a team to achieve annual capital commitment goals.
  • Set priorities across departments to maximize agency-wide efforts.
  • Work closely with the executive leadership team to develop and implement C&D's strategic goals and objectives.
  • Facilitate and identify areas for process improvement and develop strategies to address them.
  • Manage cross-agency coordination with NYC Transit, Long Island Railroad, Metro-North Railroad, and Bridges & Tunnels.
  • Liaise with MTA HQ on critical issues affecting the MTA Capital Program.
  • Manage C&D special projects and initiatives, including cost containment and resource management.
  • Ensure positive relationships with industry partners to increase capital contract competition.
  • Accountable for development and improvement of corporate performance and agency-level reporting.
  • Manage internal and external communications, including agency-wide messaging from the President.
  • Negotiate solutions to challenging situations and assist in developing creative solutions.
  • Supervise staff within the President's Office.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Engineering, Construction, Transportation, Planning, or related field.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 12-15 years of related experience in transportation, construction projects, project management, and government project administration.
  • Strong leadership skills and willingness to transform policy and procedures.
  • In-depth knowledge of transportation, construction, and project management issues.
  • Proven leader as a change agent with the ability to align business goals with solutions.
  • Ability to multi-task and work effectively with stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both speaking and writing.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and document management software.
