About the position

The Chief of Staff position in the Department of Administrative Services (DAS) supports the Associate Director's Office, which is responsible for strategic planning, coordination, and program assessment within DAS. The role involves managing internal communications, overseeing budget and human resources, and providing support for Judicial Conference committees. The Chief of Staff will play a crucial role in ensuring effective operations and communication within the department, which serves a large number of judiciary staff and judges.

Responsibilities

  • Manage internal communications and prepare timely messages from the Associate Director to department managers and staff.
  • Coordinate meetings with senior staff and prepare agendas and talking points for the Associate Director.
  • Oversee the processing and coordination of correspondence and documents requiring the Associate Director's review.
  • Coordinate department-level strategic planning activities and organize planning sessions on behalf of the Associate Director.
  • Manage the department's leadership calendar and identify key meetings and deadlines.
  • Oversee the execution of the department's decentralized salary allocations and monitor personnel funding.
  • Coordinate the annual performance management and performance award processes for department staff.
  • Assist the Associate Director on personnel matters pertaining to senior staff, including preparing vacancy announcements and conducting interviews.
  • Serve as the executive champion for continuous process improvement and oversee the Continuous Process Improvement Staff.
  • Participate in meetings of the AO Executive Management Group and provide advisory support.
  • Assist the Associate Director in overseeing the department's role in supporting Judicial Conference Committees and advisory bodies.
  • Serve on teams to address emergent issues and ensure timely responses from DAS offices.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience providing executive oversight of a complex organization with a broad portfolio of missions.
  • Experience leading a large organization, including overseeing strategic planning and managing significant resources.
  • Knowledge and experience with the structure and processes of the Judicial Conference of the U.S. Courts and AO advisory bodies.
