About the position

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Kaiser Permanente's Modesto Medical Center is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the hospital, ensuring the delivery of cost-effective and quality services. This role involves managing various departments, fostering collaboration among stakeholders, and implementing strategic initiatives to enhance operational and financial performance. The COO will lead a high-performing team, promote a culture of trust and communication, and ensure the integration of quality improvements into daily operations.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the hospital and assume responsibility for hospital administration in the absence of the SVP Area Manager.
  • Provide leadership in building a high-performing team and organization that achieves both the mission and financial/operational objectives of KP.
  • Provide strategic leadership to conceptualize, articulate, and implement a shared vision for the medical center and service area.
  • Create a culture of trust among stakeholders and maintain open channels of communication.
  • Develop and execute key strategies to differentiate KP from competitors in service and clinical excellence.
  • Promote ongoing communication and information sharing among KP employees, physician leadership, and medical staff.
  • Create a decisive, action-oriented culture that advances quality, service, and performance.
  • Establish clear goals and objectives, ensuring timely follow-through and mentoring of direct reports.
  • Achieve and exceed performance expectations throughout hospital operations.
  • Support caregivers and enhance growth, communication, and job satisfaction.
  • Manage operating and capital budgets, mitigating variances and making sound resource decisions.
  • Support the operational implementation of new technology platforms and processes.
  • Promote and operationalize the Labor-Management Partnership throughout the organization.
  • Model and reinforce ethical behavior in accordance with Kaiser Permanente's Code of Conduct.

Requirements

  • Five (5) years of hospital operations experience in healthcare leadership roles.
  • Master's degree in Business Administration, Health Care Administration, or related field.
  • Strong performance orientation with operational and strategic focus.
  • Ability to establish clear expectations and continuously measure performance.
  • Highly organized and self-directed approach to work.
  • Demonstrated caring, respectful, and compassionate attitude towards all people.
  • Proven ability to meet challenges and achieve solutions through collaboration.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, including presentation and motivational abilities.
  • Commitment to quality and service in all aspects of work, striving for continuous improvement.
