About the position

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Radiology and Medical Imaging Department at the University of Virginia is responsible for managing and optimizing daily operations, enhancing operational efficiency, ensuring financial sustainability, and delivering exceptional patient care. The COO collaborates closely with the Chair to meet the department's clinical, research, education, and community mission goals. Strong leadership, decision-making, and communication skills are essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and optimize daily operations of the Radiology and Medical Imaging Department.
  • Design and implement strategies to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Ensure financial sustainability of the department.
  • Deliver exceptional patient care.
  • Collaborate with the Chair to meet clinical, research, education, and community mission goals.
  • Provide oversight of clinical operations, education, financial management, information technology, research, space management, human relations, and teleradiology.
  • Serve as the key liaison between the Department, School of Medicine, Medical Center, Health System, UVA Community Health, and University Physicians Group.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or health care administration.
  • At least eight years of progressively responsible management experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Understanding of finances related to healthcare and academic medicine for medical imaging services.
  • An advanced degree, such as an MBA.
