About the position

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Southwest Sustainability Innovation Engine (SWSIE) will provide leadership and support to the senior team in advancing the innovative approach of the NSF-funded Regional Innovation Engine. The COO will play a crucial role in the internal and external realization of SWSIE's architecture, ensuring alignment with project goals and fostering engagement with various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and direct staff including workload, priorities, and alignment to project goals.
  • Provide executive oversight for budget development, operations planning, and performance tracking.
  • Coordinate communication between research units at ASU and partner institutions to ensure alignment with NSF requirements.
  • Ensure SWSIE Working Groups are adequately staffed and resourced to meet goals.
  • Assist the CEO in establishing long-term relationships with external partners.
  • Support effective engagement with project collaborators including industry partners and academic institutions.
  • Assist with the design and management of SWSIE programs and services.
  • Demonstrate leadership in adhering to rules and regulations set by NSF and other funding agencies.

Requirements

  • Masters degree in a relevant field and eight years of related administrative experience, including five years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience serving as operational lead for complex R&D projects or portfolios.
  • Experience implementing Federal research projects.
  • Knowledge of technology transfer and commercialization processes.
  • Strong leadership and client service skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to lead projects within a matrixed environment with competing priorities.
  • Entrepreneurial thinking and ability to execute ideas quickly and effectively.
  • Strong data-driven decision-making skills and effective communication abilities.
