About the position

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) at New York Public Radio (NYPR) is a pivotal leadership role responsible for managing the administrative, financial, and operational aspects of the organization. The COO will work closely with the President and CEO to ensure the efficient execution of NYPR's mission and strategic objectives, overseeing various departments and fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Manage administrative and financial operations of the organization, complementing the CEO's focus on strategy and external relationships.
  • Collaborate with the CEO in setting organizational priorities and drive coordination and execution of those priorities with senior leaders.
  • Translate strategy into actionable steps for organization-wide goal setting, performance management, workforce planning, and annual operating budget.
  • Oversee Finance, Sponsorship, IT, Human Resources and DEI, Legal, and Office Services departments, comprising about 70 staff.
  • Lead NYPR's Senior Leadership Team to ensure alignment and monitoring of priorities, goals, and performance.
  • Oversee employee productivity and build a culture that ensures team members can thrive and grow while driving organizational priorities.
  • Ensure compliance with national and local business regulations.

Requirements

  • Proven experience (15+ years) in progressive management roles within complex, medium-to-large organizations.
  • Experience as a general manager, COO, executive director, or division manager is ideal.
  • Demonstrated experience in financial management, budgeting, and strategic planning.
  • Experience effectively leading teams and driving operational excellence across functions.
  • Advanced degree in business administration, non-profit management, or a related field is preferred.

  • Experience in the media industry is a plus but not required.
