About the position

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Durham University is a newly created executive role responsible for overseeing a portfolio that includes the Academic Registry, Estates and Facilities, Computing and Information Services, and the Strategic Delivery Unit. The COO will provide leadership in developing and delivering professional services while aligning operations across the university during a period of significant change and transformation in the higher education sector.

Responsibilities

• Provide overall management and leadership for the Academic Registry, Estates and Facilities, Computing and Information Services, and Strategic Delivery Unit.
• Work closely with the Vice-Chancellor and Warden, and senior colleagues to align university operations.
• Lead the development and effective delivery of professional services within the university.
• Shape modern, service-oriented, and cost-effective professional service operations.
• Foster partnerships with senior colleagues to pursue strategic ambitions.

Requirements

• Demonstrated track record of shaping modern, service-oriented professional service operations in large organizations, preferably in Higher Education.
• Strong leadership skills and experience in managing complex organizations.
• Empathy with Durham University's purpose and values.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in a senior management role within a university or higher education institution.
• Knowledge of current trends and challenges in higher education.
