About the position

BMS Family and Wellness Centers, a non-profit healthcare organization, is seeking a Chief Operating Officer (COO) to lead its operations in Brooklyn, NY. The COO will play a critical leadership role, reporting directly to the CEO, and will work closely with senior executives and the Board of Directors to develop and implement strategies that align with both short-term and long-term organizational goals. This position is pivotal in guiding, administering, and coordinating the activities of the organization in support of the policies, goals, and objectives established by the CEO. In the absence of the CEO, the COO will serve as the administrator in charge. The COO will oversee the direct health center and program operations, ensuring the maintenance and expansion of services while strategizing funding opportunities for further organizational growth. This role includes managing various units such as Practice Operations, Call Center, Referrals, Facilities Management, Information Technology, Health Information Systems, and more. The COO will also support the Corporation's Compliance and Risk Management Programs, direct the preparation of short-term and long-range plans and budgets, and lead the entrepreneurial development and implementation of new initiatives and programs. Additionally, the COO will coordinate all contracting activities, oversee the HRSA Operations Site Visit activities, and develop operational structures necessary for managing the organization's current activities and projected growth. The role requires the compilation and presentation of performance metrics and the establishment of effective communication and information flow within the organization. The COO will ensure compliance with various regulatory mandates and oversee business affiliations and managed care contracts, ensuring that all organizational activities are conducted in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Guide, administer, and coordinate the activities of the organization in support of policies, goals, and objectives established by the CEO.
  • Serve as the administrator in charge in the absence of the CEO.
  • Oversee direct health center and program operations to maintain and expand services.
  • Strategize funding opportunities for organizational growth.
  • Manage subordinates who supervise various operational units including Practice Operations, Call Center, and IT.
  • Support the Corporation's Compliance and Risk Management Programs.
  • Direct the preparation of short-term and long-range plans and budgets based on corporate goals.
  • Lead the development and implementation of new initiatives and programs.
  • Coordinate all contracting activities and HRSA Operations Site Visit activities.
  • Develop and implement operational structures necessary for managing current activities and projected growth.
  • Compile and present performance metrics and design effective strategies for achieving goals.
  • Establish and review operating policies consistent with BMS' goals and regulatory mandates.
  • Evaluate and report on the aggregated results of overall operations on a routine basis.
  • Ensure compliance with Joint Commission, HRSA, and other regulatory mandates.

Requirements

  • Master's degree preferred in a related field.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of related experience and/or training, or a combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated success in enhancing family practice/ambulatory center operations.
  • Strong management skills and ability to develop operational infrastructure.
  • Strong fiscal management abilities and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to review and analyze financial data and manage spreadsheets.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals and governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers and clients.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts and apply quantitative methodology to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Leadership and team leadership skills working with a cross-section of professionals.
  • Knowledge of real estate concepts and practices related to financing and property management.
  • Comfortable with IT theory and application in a healthcare environment.
