About the position

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) for Fenway Health will be responsible for designing and overseeing operational systems that enable the effective, efficient delivery of a diverse array of health services. This includes ambulatory medical, behavioral health, dental, and optometry services, as well as biomedical, epidemiologic, and population health, and public health programs. The COO will excel in working with multidisciplinary clinical teams to structure patient-centered, team-based care delivery systems. This role requires a strategic leader with a demonstrated track record of developing and executing innovative strategies to optimize operational efficiencies while ensuring the highest quality outcomes, safety, and regulatory compliance. Additionally, the COO will possess a strong background in communication strategies, emotional intelligence, and the ability to build and maintain strong relationships. The COO will ensure core operational excellence across the organization. The COO will work closely with the leadership team to drive the execution of Fenway Health's strategic goals, guiding the overall implementation of plans in partnership with the executive team. They will collaborate with the Chief Medical Officer and Chief Financial Officer to optimize team-based care delivery models, ensuring that staffing models and appropriate resources are secured and deployed to deliver on expected patient/client quality outcomes. The COO will also oversee daily operations, provide mentorship and support to direct reports, and foster a team-centered culture that enables employees to maximize their performance and engagement. In addition to operational efficiency, the COO will oversee the development of comprehensive communication plans to effectively convey Fenway Health's mission, values, and services to diverse audiences. They will identify and pursue opportunities for growth and expansion of Fenway Health's services and programs, establishing and maintaining relationships with sponsors and business partners. The COO will drive initiatives that promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging across all levels of the organization, ensuring that Fenway Health continues to serve the diverse communities it supports.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the execution of Fenway Health's strategic goals in collaboration with the leadership team.
  • Optimize team-based care delivery models with the Chief Medical Officer and Chief Financial Officer.
  • Develop and implement annual capital investment plans for necessary space and equipment.
  • Ensure staffing models and resources are secured for quality outcomes and regulatory compliance.
  • Identify efficiencies and optimize revenue and expenditures with the Chief Financial Officer.
  • Define, measure, and manage comprehensive goals for performance and growth.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to execute the operational plan, budget, and key performance indicators.
  • Define and direct organizational policies, internal controls, standards, and procedures.
  • Serve as management liaison to the board and board committees as requested by the CEO.
  • Oversee daily operations and provide mentorship to direct reports and their teams.
  • Manage purchased services with C3, ensuring accountability for service level agreement performance.
  • Recruit, retain, and develop talent at all levels, providing coaching and mentoring as needed.
  • Oversee the development of comprehensive communication plans for diverse audiences.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for growth and expansion of services and programs.
  • Develop and execute strategic business plans to increase revenue streams and financial sustainability.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within Fenway Health.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of leadership experience within a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), large group practice, or similar organization managing clinical care delivery.
  • Experience with budgetary responsibility and ideally profit-and-loss accountability.
  • People management experience is essential, with a preference for experience integrating primary, specialty, behavioral, and community health care.
  • Knowledge of evolving health care delivery and financing trends, including payer models.
  • Experience adapting to dynamic environments of population health management and changing trends in health care delivery.
  • Deep understanding and commitment to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion within the organization and the communities served.
  • Master's degree or relevant comparable years of experience in health care or public health administration is strongly preferred.
