About the position

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is responsible for overseeing the clinical operational performance of University of Maryland Faculty Physicians, Inc. (FPI) and its affiliated Practice Associations. This role involves implementing strategies, policies, and procedures to enhance clinical practices, improve patient care, and ensure profitability. The COO collaborates with various stakeholders to develop and manage clinical operations, focusing on long-term value and stakeholder satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure effective implementation of approved strategies, tactics, policies, and procedures in all clinical practices.
  • Provide operational consultation for all activities of the practice in accordance with business and strategic plans.
  • Collaborate with the Dean of the University of Maryland School of Medicine, President of FPI, and other key stakeholders to implement clinical practice strategies.
  • Enhance quality of care, patient satisfaction, patient access, clinical care growth, and practice profitability.
  • Establish and maintain productive relationships with stakeholders within FPI and the University of Maryland Medical System.

Requirements

  • MBA, MHA, or MA degree required.
  • 10+ years of senior level leadership experience in leading clinical operations in a large physician practice or physician group.
  • Strong understanding of ambulatory care operations, finance, and administration in an academic or tertiary care setting.
  • Knowledge of regulatory and policy environments.
  • Familiarity with Athena IDX and Epic systems.
  • Knowledge of physician professional fee billing.
  • Excellent organizational, leadership, decision-making, and communication skills.
