About the position

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Montage Health will lead the largest orthopedic and spine practice on the Monterey Peninsula, overseeing a team of 14 medical professionals. The COO is responsible for the management of all services, including administrative functions, financial performance, marketing, human resources, and regulatory compliance. This role requires collaboration with the CEO and medical director to establish operational goals and ensure adherence to clinical standards, while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and excellent patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all services of the orthopedic and spine practice.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations, financial performance, and administrative functions of the clinic.
  • Collaborate with the CEO to establish operational, financial, quality, and service goals.
  • Work with the medical director to develop and ensure adherence to clinical practice standards and protocols.
  • Ensure appropriate clinical oversight of providers as required by their licensure.
  • Collaborate with other Montage Health leaders on payer contracting, provider credentialing, and marketing.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration within the team.
  • Empower the team to identify and participate in process improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, healthcare administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience managing people, operations, and budgets.
  • Demonstrated ability to adhere to brand standards, financial metrics, and operational metrics.
  • Knowledge of financial management concepts and automated billing regulations.
  • Understanding of information management principles and data analysis for decision-making.
  • Skill in using personal computers and related systems and software.
  • Experience in staff leadership, mentoring, and motivating teams.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and allied health services.
  • Skill in time management and project management under pressure.
  • Experience in competitive healthcare markets and managing specialty practices.
  • Knowledge of the business structure of medical practices.
  • Skill in Lean methodologies for operations and performance improvement.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cohesive work teams across multiple locations.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in business, healthcare administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in healthcare management.
  • Experience working within an orthopedic practice.
  • Experience managing annual budgets greater than $5 million.
  • Experience with the Epic electronic health record system.
