About the position

Join the Discovery family, where quality and service are at the heart of everything we do! This role will be located at Maverick Golf & Ranch Club outside of Fort Worth, TX. Discovery Land Company is seeking a full-time, year-round Chief Operating Officer (COO) to join Maverick Golf & Ranch Club. The Chief Operating Officer will serve as the primary onsite leader and will report to Discovery Land Company's Corporate Team, including a dotted line to DLC's CFO. The COO will have a primary focus on the financial business plan for Maverick Golf & Ranch Club, and as such, this candidate must demonstrate a strong financial acumen, understand complex consumer-facing business plans and how the company drives profitability and commercial success. As the onsite project leader, and as the team continues to expand, it is our expectation that the COO will oversee Finance/Accounting, Operations, HR, IT, and Security. This individual will coordinate closely with other senior executives both at the project as well as from DLC Corporate.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the day-to-day activities for the project overseeing the activities of finance/accounting, development, operations, HR, and IT.
  • Timely and accurately produces monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to update executive leadership.
  • Ensures that the project's monthly business plan is accurate as to historical data as well as forecasted information.
  • Demonstrates an ability to make bottom-line decisions, including but not limited to overall cost controls and capex budgets.
  • In conjunction with other functional leads, directs the preparation of the capital budget and planning including leasing and other forms of financing, reserves, and replacements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required; MBA preferred.
  • 15+ years of progressive finance leadership experience; well-rounded functional knowledge across financial planning, analysis, reporting, budgeting, treasury, and tax.
  • Experience operating in complex environments through periods of change/transformation; exposure to real estate and/or hospitality is ideal.
  • Previous success building relationships with and acting as a strategic partner and business advisor to senior executive leaders.
  • Experience collaborating with, persuading, and gaining trust from a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Excellent work ethic, deadline orientation, and a strong sense of urgency.
  • Ability to work independently and be self-sufficient.
  • Strong communication and correspondence skills with the ability to maintain sound working relationships and communications with management, staff, ownership, buyers, and vendors.
  • Experience in a similar capacity at a large-scale real estate developer, resort, or club is preferred.
  • Strong computer skills, including extensive knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with Intact, Timberline, Jonas and Adaptive Planning is a plus.
