About the position

The Chief People Officer at the YMCA of Delaware serves as a key member of the Association leadership team, responsible for providing strategic direction to all HR functions. This role focuses on developing and executing human resource strategies that align with the organization's business plan, enhancing recruitment, performance management, training, compensation, and compliance. The Chief People Officer is tasked with fostering a vibrant, cause-driven culture that promotes staff engagement and performance while embodying the core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • Drive best-in-class talent recruitment and acquisition strategies to attract top talent.
  • Lead the development and implementation of employee onboarding, longboarding, performance management, and professional development strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations to reduce legal risks.
  • Maintain and update the employee handbook to reflect applicable laws, regulations, and organizational policies.
  • Provide leadership as the internal control point for staff issues related to ethics and behavior.
  • Coach and support management to mitigate or resolve employee issues.
  • Ensure job descriptions comply with YMCA of Delaware guidelines and are appropriately detailed.
  • Consult with branch staff on all HR matters.
  • Lead the HR team to create an inviting, cohesive, and efficient work environment.
  • Maintain organizational literacy regarding company goals, mission, financial position, strategy, competition, technology, and culture.
  • Oversee the development and management of the HR department's annual budget.
  • Process workers' compensation, unemployment, insurance, and disability claims.
  • Oversee benefit administration in collaboration with third-party vendors to select optimal options annually.
  • Manage employee feedback mechanisms, analyze data from surveys and focus groups to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Stay informed on trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in HR and employment law.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in leadership development, organizational development, human resources, or a related field.
  • 10 years of progressive experience in leadership development, organizational development, or human resources in a dynamic environment with multiple stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience as a strategic business advisor/partner at all organizational levels in a dispersed business environment.
  • Deep knowledge of HR functions, including talent management, recruitment, engagement, compensation, benefits design, performance management, and learning program delivery.
  • Strong command of HR technology and software.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, change management, presentation, and negotiation skills.
  • Current knowledge of employment trends and their potential impact on organizational strategies and goals.
  • Knowledge of employee relations principles and practices to ensure compliance with regulations and policies.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and managing teams.

Nice-to-haves

  • 5 years of experience in a senior management role.
  • Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • SHRM Certification or similar certification.
  • Multi-lingual capabilities.
