About the position

Cenovus is seeking a Chief Process Engineer for its Downstream North America assets to enhance reliability and profitability. This role focuses on optimizing projects, identifying cost-effective debottlenecking opportunities, evaluating new technologies, and developing mitigation plans and standard processes to improve operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze existing processes, systems, technology, and assets to devise effective strategies for service delivery.
  • Implement and maintain custody of Downstream design practices and engineering standards for process design.
  • Apply standard methodologies to address Reliability and Process Safety vulnerabilities and Loss Profit Opportunities.
  • Prioritize design issues with higher risks and larger Loss Profit Opportunities, validating the underlying Root Cause Analysis.
  • Lead a small team of engineers and indirectly lead engineers at each refinery during design and implementation phases.
  • Lead projects of various sizes throughout development, option selection, and design phases, providing operational advice.
  • Apply Continuous Improvement techniques to enhance reliability and processing problem-solving.
  • Implement Cenovus Technical Competency Program to support technical competency development for junior engineers.
  • Train process engineers on engineering standards and principles to develop sustainable processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 25+ years of engineering experience in a leading refining operating company, primarily in process engineering and projects.
  • Broad and detailed knowledge of design practices and industry standards.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 50% of the time, both domestically and internationally.

  • Ability to integrate team work with asset teams including operational advisory.
  • Provide process engineering guidance for capital projects including conceptual and applied design.
  • Identify, evaluate, and implement new technologies to improve safety and operational efficiency.
  • Provide technical expertise on strategic business decisions, including acquisitions or business model changes.
  • Lead efficient technical professional networks to drive standardization and best practices.
