About the position

The Chief Software Architect at Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. (MTSI) is responsible for leading the development of software architecture and systems engineering support for the United States Space Force's Operational Command and Control (C2) Acquisition Delta. This role involves creating long-term architectural roadmaps, defining solution architectures, and ensuring that technical solutions align with business needs and security standards. The position requires strong leadership, collaboration, and problem-solving skills to guide cross-functional teams in delivering critical capabilities for national defense.

Responsibilities

  • Performing the duties of chief software architect for the government customer as assigned
  • Developing a long-term architectural roadmap and identifying capability delivery milestones
  • Defining and documenting overall solution architecture and lifecycle roadmaps
  • Analyzing business requirements and developing technical network solutions
  • Documenting how applications and technology solutions support business needs
  • Developing and documenting, maintaining, and communicating current and future architecture design recommendations
  • Assessing the current architecture to identify technical debt and advising the Government on priorities
  • Identifying integration points for existing and new capabilities in the architecture roadmap
  • Prototyping Architecture as Code and applying associated practices
  • Evaluating technology trends against mission suitability and system development feasibility
  • Developing presentations to summarize capability and technology recommendations
  • Working on high-visibility or mission critical aspects of a given program
  • Working in consortium style settings with multiple contractor and government participants
  • Providing guidance and direction to team members and fostering a culture of innovation
  • Working closely with Information Systems Security Officers/Managers to ensure alignment with security standards
  • Providing expert level Architect support for virtual and physical networks, computers, servers, and appliances
  • Overseeing and maintaining a configuration management system
  • Generating governance policies and procedures to guide software development and program activities
  • Demonstrating strong communications and collaboration skills

Requirements

  • 15 years of relevant DoD/IC or relevant industry work experience
  • Knowledge and experience establishing secure, trusted processing and communications architectures
  • Experience in the development and coordination of weapon system interoperability requirements
  • Skilled in information technology with significant problem-solving and leadership abilities
  • Familiarity with DevSecOps implementation and execution
  • Familiarity with Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines
  • Deep knowledge of software related topics such as database design and enterprise service bus architecture
  • Demonstrated experience with Mattermost, Jira, Jira Align, Confluence, and Outlook
  • Broad experience in software development for complex military systems
  • Strong interpersonal skills for working with diverse personnel
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills
  • Experience with presenting technical data to various audiences
  • Willingness to mentor colleagues and lead sessions

Nice-to-haves

  • Fluency in multiple programming languages
  • Experience working with DoD or IC acquisition organizations
  • Experience on a Systems Engineering, Integration and Test (SEIT) or Systems Engineering and Technical Assistance (SETA) contract
  • Experience with Space Systems Command
  • Knowledge of Digital Engineering, IoT, Cloud Platforms and Software Apps
  • Familiarity with software factory platform diagrams
  • Familiarity with Systems Modeling Language (SysML)/Model-Based Systems Engineering
  • At least 2 years of Special Access Programs (SAP) and/or TS/SCI experience
  • Experience with generating governance policies and procedures
