About the position

The Chief State Trial Counsel will create and lead a new Office of the State Trial Counsel within the Attorney General's Office, focusing on civil trial advocacy. This role involves supporting Assistant Attorneys General in litigation matters, leading complex cases, and developing training programs for trial advocacy skills. The position is full-time and offers a hybrid work model with some remote workdays.

Responsibilities

  • Create and lead the new Office of the State Trial Counsel.
  • Support Assistant Attorneys General in civil enforcement and litigation matters.
  • Lead or work directly on select complex litigation matters.
  • Develop and implement office-wide training for civil trial advocacy.
  • Engage in strategic planning and set organizational goals.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant complex civil litigation and trial experience.
  • Massachusetts bar membership is required.
  • Significant trial advocacy experience.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of state and federal civil procedure.
  • Strong ability to work with deadlines.
  • Experience in setting organizational goals and strategic planning.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and lead junior attorneys.
  • Ability to work effectively in teams.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with Massachusetts Superior Court practice, particularly the Business Litigation Session.
