About the position

The Chief Strategy & Financial Officer (CSFO) at Trees Forever is a senior leadership role responsible for guiding the organization's strategic initiatives and financial management. This position focuses on enhancing the impact of Trees Forever's programs and aligning them with the organization's mission. The CSFO collaborates closely with the CEO to co-steward the strategic plan, ensuring that all programs are data-driven and executed with precision. Additionally, the CSFO oversees financial and administrative functions, including budgeting, financial reporting, and human resources management, while also establishing partnerships within communities to support resource development.

Responsibilities

  • Lead organization-wide strategic activities to enhance Trees Forever's impact.
  • Co-steward the strategic plan alongside the CEO, ensuring data-driven and impact-focused programs.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships within communities and across the development/finance ecosystem.
  • Manage and oversee financial and administrative functions, including financial accounting and reporting.
  • Prepare financial analysis and reports for the Board and Executive Team.
  • Identify and establish strategic partnerships to enhance the organization's mission.
  • Oversee development and implementation of new program offerings that respond to community needs.
  • Lead planning and budgeting for new initiatives and programs with a focus on sustainability.
  • Guide program prioritization to align with Trees Forever's strategic plan.
  • Maintain relationships with CPA firm for annual audits and tax compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related discipline required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in financial management and accounting.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a nonprofit organization.
  • Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting and finance.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience working with boards, committees, and donors.

Nice-to-haves

  • MBA or Master of Strategic Leadership preferred.
  • CPA certification is preferred.
  • Experience in nonprofit administration, organizational development, community or economic development.
