About the position

The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) is responsible for providing leadership and direction for the University’s technology operations, including data center operations, telecommunications, system administration, and networking. The CTO manages the budget for infrastructure and services, ensuring high-quality and secure technical support. This role involves strategic planning for IT initiatives, developing policies and standards, and managing vendor relationships to support the University’s technology needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and direction for data center operations, telecommunications, system administration, and networking.
  • Manage spending for infrastructure, software, and services in coordination with the OIT business office.
  • Ensure high-quality, reliable, and secure technical infrastructure and services with 24x7x365 support.
  • Lead strategic planning for all of OIT and develop initiatives for continuous improvement.
  • Implement an integrated structure for academic and administrative computing.
  • Develop and advance IT policies, standards, and processes.
  • Manage vendor relationships with key technology providers.
  • Work closely with IT executive team and decision makers to identify and implement cost-effective technology solutions.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and monitoring for IT projects.
  • Assist with development of action plans and responses to IT audits.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and fifteen (15) years of IT experience; OR master's and thirteen (13) years of IT experience.
  • Must have a valid U.S. driver's license and be at least 19 years of age at the time of hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • Leadership, vision, and broad technical knowledge in media, computing, and communications-related areas.
  • Experience with budgets and finances.
  • Ability to articulate a vision beyond traditional IT roles.
  • ITIL or similar certifications or formal training in IT operations and service delivery.
  • Experience in an enterprise-wide infrastructure including UNIX and Wintel services support.
