About the position

The City of Camden (New Jersey) is seeking a dynamic and experienced Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to lead its technology team. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving the strategic direction of technology initiatives and ensuring the seamless integration and optimization of the City's IT infrastructure. This role demands a visionary leader with hands-on expertise in systems administration and a deep understanding of cutting-edge technologies. The CTO will play a critical role in shaping the technological landscape of Camden City, ensuring that technology serves as a catalyst for innovation and efficiency within the municipal operations. In this position, the CTO will develop and implement the overall technology strategy aligned with the City's business goals. This includes leading and managing the IT department, which currently consists of five employees, while fostering teamwork, innovation, and efficiency. The CTO will oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of the City's technology infrastructure, ensuring that it meets the needs of various departments and the community at large. A key aspect of this role will be to function as a Windows Systems Administrator, managing environments such as Office 365, Azure, Active Directory, and Nutanix. The CTO will also be responsible for ensuring robust cybersecurity measures are in place and that disaster recovery plans are regularly tested. Collaboration with other City executives will be essential to drive technological advancements and improvements. The CTO will evaluate and integrate new technologies to enhance productivity and operational efficiency, while also managing relationships with external technology vendors and service providers. This position requires a blend of technical expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of the City's technology infrastructure.
  • Function as a Windows Systems Administrator, managing Office 365, Azure, Active Directory, and Nutanix environments.
  • Ensure robust cybersecurity measures and ensure that disaster recovery plans are in place and regularly tested.
  • Collaborate with other City executives to drive technological advancements and improvements.
  • Evaluate and integrate new technologies to enhance productivity and operational efficiency.
  • Manage relationships with external technology vendors and service providers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (Master's preferred).
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in IT, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Proficiency in Windows Systems Administration, including Office 365, Azure, Active Directory, and Nutanix.
  • Strong understanding of Cisco and Meraki technologies.
  • Proven experience in leading IT projects and teams.
  • In-depth knowledge of network infrastructure, cybersecurity practices, and cloud computing.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve complex technical issues promptly.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Nice-to-haves

  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect, Cisco Certified Network Professional) are a plus.
  • Demonstrated success in managing large-scale technology projects and transformations.
