About the position

Selby Jennings is leading the search for a Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to join a quant hedge fund based in Manhattan, New York City. This firm, which has been a significant player in the industry for over twenty years, is renowned for its commitment to driving innovation through technology. The CTO will play a pivotal role in spearheading the development of brand new trading systems while also being deeply involved in the technical road mapping of the firm's infrastructure and hardware enhancements. This position offers a unique opportunity to shape the technological landscape of the firm and ensure that it remains at the forefront of the quant finance sector. In this role, the CTO will collaborate closely with the Director of Quant Research, Network Managers, and the CEO. The position involves leading a team of 10 professionals, where the CTO will primarily function as a leader but is also expected to be hands-on and capable of coding when necessary, particularly in C++ and/or Python. This is an excellent opportunity for tech leads looking to step up into a CTO role or for existing CTOs who are eager to embrace a fresh challenge while remaining engaged in the technical aspects of the job. The CTO will oversee the development of a new automated trading system and simulation environment, steering the overall technical direction for trading system development and infrastructure. They will partner with the quantitative research team to gain insights into their methodologies and objectives, ensuring that the technology aligns with the firm's strategic goals. Additionally, the CTO will be responsible for the design and specification of storage and compute farm infrastructure, which is expected to continuously evolve in scale and sophistication.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative discipline such as mathematics, physics, or computer science.
  • Interest in quantitative finance, financial markets, and high-performance computing.
  • Experience with multi-threaded applications or distributed computing.
  • Knowledge of server and network-level architecture.
  • Fluency in C++ and/or Python.
