About the position

The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) will serve as a key leader in technology, responsible for aligning technology solutions with the agency's objectives. This role involves collaboration with various stakeholders to enhance Nebraska's transportation systems, ensuring safety and reliability through innovative technical solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Maximize partnerships and strategic planning with internal business units, matching their business objectives with technology solutions.
  • Lead critical research and develop concepts, prototypes, and forecasting for transportation solutions.
  • Maintain knowledge of emerging technologies in the transportation industry.
  • Implement and manage major initiatives.
  • Lead the execution of a variety of projects.
  • Accountable for all technology plans, including innovation plans, technical direction, and technical improvements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in computer science, information systems, mathematics, engineering or other related field.
  • Two years of experience working with a broad range of technology disciplines (e.g., network, infrastructure, coding, systems, or database).
  • Three years of experience supervising activities of professional-level information technology staff.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in information technology, engineering, business, or other relevant field.
  • Fifteen or more years of management and progressive IT leadership experience.
  • Ten or more years of transportation industry experience, including transportation technology policy development.
  • Five or more years leading or managing a Project Management Office.
  • Experience developing IT budgets.
  • Experience leveraging business intelligence for data-driven decisions.
  • Experience working in a shared services environment.
