About the position
The Child Care Assistant position at Blessing House involves providing care for children aged birth through 12 years in a crisis care facility. The role requires working weekends and holidays, with shifts available during the day and evening. The assistant will engage in personal care, hygiene, meal serving, and planning developmental activities while ensuring a safe environment for the children. This position is part-time and requires a commitment to the mission of the organization.
Responsibilities
- Care for children including all aspects of personal care and hygiene.
- Assist with serving meals and snacks.
- Plan and engage in physical and developmental activities, including outside play and interaction with the children.
- Provide assistance with homework.
- Manage behavior and provide a safe environment.
- Document children's activities and behavior.
- Communicate with parents as directed by administrative staff.
- Follow the schedule of the facility.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of toys and facilities.
- Ensure compliance with licensing regulations.
- Handle laundry and maintain clothing inventory.
- Clean the bedroom wing including children's bathrooms.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED Certificate.
- Substantial involvement with children in personal, professional, or volunteer capacity.
- Ability to read instructions and job-related documents.
- Ability to write and document notes regarding shift activities.
- Compassionate and willing to listen to children.
- Ability to be flexible to meet the needs of each child.
- Good organizational skills and ability to multitask.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Ability to think and make decisions quickly.
- Pleasant, outgoing disposition and ability to relate to individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Must be able to lift children weighing 40 pounds or less safely.
- Requires extended periods of standing and walking.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in childcare for 2 years or more.
