About The Position

The Before and After School Program Teacher position at the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids is designed to provide a safe, reliable, and enjoyable environment for children before and after school. This role involves assisting in the planning and implementation of engaging classroom activities, ensuring the well-being of participants, and fostering a positive relationship with parents and the community. Staff members are expected to embody the YMCA's guiding principles and actively contribute to member engagement and satisfaction.

Requirements

• Six months to one year of youth development related experience or equivalent education, training, and experience
• Ability to interact with people of all ethnic backgrounds, ages, and lifestyles
• Ability and desire to work with school-age children
• Blood Borne Pathogen training
• CPR Certification required within the first 60 days
• First Aid Certification required within the first 60 days
• AED-Oxygen Certification required within the first 60 days
• State of Michigan criminal background clearance (ICHAT)

Responsibilities

• Assist Site Coordinator in developing and leading daily lesson plans
• Prepare materials for daily activities
• Maintain records of attendance, arrival, and departure times
• Provide weekly lesson plans to parents
• Inform parents about individual activities on a daily basis
• Supervise children during program hours
• Assist Site Supervisor with parent-teacher conferences as needed
• Maintain quality and quantity of supplies, equipment, and materials in the classroom
• Perform any other functions necessary for the smooth operation of the YMCA.
