About the position

The Child Care Center Teacher is responsible for providing high-quality care and education to young children in a nurturing environment. This role involves maintaining professional standards, supervising children, collaborating with families, and implementing developmentally appropriate practices. The teacher will engage with a diverse community, ensuring that each child's individual needs are met while fostering their physical, intellectual, emotional, and social growth.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains a high standard of professional and ethical conduct that complies with all established university and center policies.
  • Provides supervision, care, education, protection, and engagement at all times with a group of young children that complies with current licensing and accreditation standards.
  • Maintains all daily childcare routines (e.g., diapering, handwashing, transitions) in a caring, hygienic manner consistent with appropriate child development principles.
  • Adjusts communication approach to support a language-, cultural-, and ability-diverse community.
  • Collaborates with families to develop individual care and learning plans for each child.
  • Establishes and maintains positive, collaborative relationships with families and colleagues.
  • Demonstrates an in-depth knowledge of the UHMCC Universal Teaching Practices and adjusts forms of assistance to meet the needs of individual children.
  • Documents curriculum experiences and communicates with families about their child's growth.
  • Plans and implements detailed unit plans that develop specific learning objectives.
  • Provides care and comfort to young children, which may require lifting and carrying children of up to 50 pounds.
  • Maintains outdoor learning spaces and additional shared materials in a safe and orderly manner.
  • Actively participates in staff meetings and completes all required program training.
  • Develops and implements an individual professional development plan in collaboration with program administration.
  • Oversees and supports student employees, volunteers, and interns.

Requirements

  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Early Childhood Education/Child Development or related field with specific coursework in child development.
  • Two years of full-time progressively responsible professional experience in early childhood care and learning.
  • Functional knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques in Early Childhood Education.
  • Ability to recognize problems and resolve issues in Early Childhood Education.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in various situations and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
  • Practical knowledge of Universal Teaching Practices and child development.

Nice-to-haves

  • Three years of full-time or equivalent experience with UHMCC or similar accredited child care center.
  • Ability to navigate challenging situations with children and families.
  • Certification for Infant/Toddler Care or Lead Teacher qualified for Infant/Toddler Group Child Care.
