About the position

The Child Care Site Director at the University of Michigan-Flint's Early Childhood Development Center is responsible for overseeing the early childcare and education program, ensuring it aligns with the Center's philosophy and licensing requirements. The Director will provide leadership, mentorship, and support to staff while managing the program's curriculum, budget, and community relations. This role emphasizes high-quality education inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach and involves collaboration with families, faculty, and the community.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and implement short and long-range program goals and objectives for the ECDC.
  • Ensure compliance with licensing requirements mandated by the Michigan Department of Human Services.
  • Oversee the ECDC's Accreditation with the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
  • Manage the ECDC's participation in the Quality Rating and Improvement System through Great Start to Quality.
  • Maintain a comprehensive system for student records including admission forms and attendance records.
  • Ensure that all children are served in a developmentally appropriate manner.
  • Maintain strict health and safety guidelines for children and adults within the program.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with families and community members.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff in developing programs that link research with early childhood education practices.
  • Supervise staff, interns, and volunteers, providing leadership and maintaining communication.
  • Manage the overall ECDC budget, including monitoring tuition income and grant funding.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in early childhood education, child development, elementary education, or a related field with 9 credit hours in business and administrative courses.
  • 3 years of progressively responsible management/supervisory experience in a childcare center.
  • Experience managing a budget responsibly.
  • Experience working with young children and families using developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Experience pursuing and managing grants.
  • Pediatric First Aid and CPR certificate.
  • Negative TB Test result.
  • State of Michigan fingerprint clearance.
  • Valid Central Registry Check.
  • Bloodborne Pathogen Annual Training.
