About the position

The Children's Center, a non-profit agency, is dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of young children, one family at a time. Our mission is to nurture and educate children and their families. We provide opportunities for education, parenting support and resources to families in our communities. The Children's Center Head Start/Early Head Start is a federally funded program that provides no cost services to qualifying families who reside in the community. Comprehensive services are provided to pregnant women and their partners and children from birth to 5. Child development, health and family services are provided through a variety of program options designed to meet the needs of low-income and at-risk families.

Responsibilities

  • Enjoy leading and assisting with structured activities both in the classroom and on the playground.
  • Ensure all Virginia Licensing and Head Start/Early Head Start regulations are followed to ensure child safety and to maintain a high-quality classroom.
  • Communicate directly with parents to build healthy partnerships that promote the child's success and healthy development.
  • Assist in other roles such as in the kitchen, as the custodian, on the bus, or at the front desk.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 3-6 months of experience in an early childhood setting is preferred.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Prior experience working in a classroom.
  • Familiarity with Virginia Licensing regulations.
  • CPR/First Aid training.
  • Flexibility with work hours and scheduling.
  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic.
