About the position

The Child Care Worker is responsible for providing direct care services to children and adolescents in a psychiatric hospital setting. This role involves maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment, implementing treatment plans, and supporting the development of self-care and social skills through daily activities and patient interactions.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct care service to children and adolescents under the supervision of a registered nurse.
• Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for the patient/patient group.
• Provide physical care, support, guidance, and supervision in daily activities consistent with the treatment plan.
• Implement aspects of the treatment plan through patient interactions.
• Teach and develop self-care and social skills.
• Organize and participate in patient activities.

Requirements

• Completion of two years of college (60 semester or 90 term credits), including 15 semester (22 term) credits in human service areas such as psychology, sociology, social work, nursing, or related fields.
• For Child Care Worker E9: One year of experience equivalent to a Child Care Worker 8 and completion of the Department of Health and Human Services' approved training program.
• Alternate education: Three years of experience as a Youth Specialist may substitute for the education and experience requirements.
