About the position

The Child Care Worker is responsible for providing direct care services to children and adolescents in a psychiatric hospital setting. This role involves maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment, implementing treatment plans, and supporting the development of self-care and social skills through daily activities and patient interactions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct care service to children and adolescents under the supervision of a registered nurse.
  • Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for the patient group.
  • Implement aspects of the treatment plan through patient interactions.
  • Teach and develop self-care and social skills.
  • Organize and participate in patient activities.

Requirements

  • Completion of two years of college (60 semester or 90 term credits), including 15 semester (22 term) credits in human service areas such as psychology, sociology, or nursing.
  • For Child Care Worker E9: One year of experience equivalent to a Child Care Worker 8 and completion of the Department of Health and Human Services' approved training program.
  • Alternate education: Three years of experience as a Youth Specialist may substitute for the education and experience requirements.
