About the position

The Child Development Center Staff II, Lead Teacher position offers a fully supplied, quality classroom and has primary responsibility for effective design and implementation of a developmentally appropriate early care and education environment. The CDC Staff II Lead Teacher reports directly to the Director of the CDC and has the following responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Promotes College mission, values, and vision
  • Designs, implements, and evaluates developmentally appropriate environments that reflect the value of diversity for preschool children from six weeks to five years
  • Integrates the principles of child development into all aspects of program practice
  • Models research-based current best practices in early care and learning
  • Documents development and learning at both the individual and group level
  • Demonstrates flexibility, openness to change, and commitment to working in a collaborative, team-based environment
  • Maintains accurate and appropriate records for each child
  • Maintains sanitary conditions that meet local and state requirements and that meet program quality standards
  • Monitors classroom supply and equipment needs and reports to the Director of the CDC in a timely manner
  • Provides leadership in planning and implementing activities that promote campus and community involvement
  • Posts daily schedule and classroom activities in timely and visible manner
  • Maintains all records required by the program and the College as well as local and state agencies
  • Implements a variety of teaching styles, updates classroom materials, and provides for a stimulating arrangement of classroom space and equipment
  • Consults with the Director of the CDC to ensure recommendation of appropriate resources and/or referrals for families
  • Supervises Early Childhood students and provides timely, appropriate feedback to students completing classroom assignments, observations, and/or cooperative work experiences in CDC classroom
  • Facilitates completion of observations and/or assignments in the CDC by students from a variety of College programs and disciplines
  • Pursues appropriate professional development experiences
  • Models professional integrity
  • Assists in orientation and mentoring of new CDC Staff 1 and Staff 2 teachers

Requirements

  • Associates Degree in Early Childhood or related field from a regionally accredited institution
  • NC Early Childhood Credential (NCECC)
  • Skill in the use of technology to document classroom plans and activities
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively and collegially with others
  • Ability to integrate child development principles into all aspects of program practices
  • Ability to design, implement and evaluate developmentally appropriate environments for children ages six weeks to five years
  • Ability to demonstrate best practices in early care and education
  • Ability to integrate age appropriateness and individual appropriateness into each child's daily experience
  • Ability to demonstrate the value of diversity in the learning environment
  • Ability to provide information, support, and resources for parents

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Child Development or related field from a regionally accredited institution
  • Experience in an Early Childhood setting
