About the position

The Child Development Specialist is responsible for supporting children with developmental disabilities and autism, focusing on their growth and independence. This role involves direct interaction with children and their families to implement individualized care plans, promote social skills, and enhance daily living activities. The specialist collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to provide comprehensive support tailored to each child's unique needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct support to children with autism and developmental disabilities in various settings, including home and community care.
  • Administer medication as prescribed and monitor the child's response to treatment.
  • Collect and analyze data on children's progress, behavior, and development to inform care strategies.
  • Assist children with daily living activities (ADLs) to promote independence and self-sufficiency.
  • Implement individualized education plans (IEPs) in collaboration with special education professionals.
  • Engage in social work practices to support families and address any challenges they may face.
  • Utilize behavioral health techniques to encourage positive behavior and emotional well-being.
  • Maintain accurate records of services provided, progress notes, and any incidents that occur during care.

Requirements

  • Experience working with individuals with autism or developmental disabilities is essential.
  • Knowledge of medication administration protocols is preferred.
  • Strong skills in data collection and analysis related to child development.
  • Familiarity with special education processes and IEP development is advantageous.
  • Background in social work or behavioral health is a plus.
