About the position
The Child Life Specialist supports pediatric patients, families, and the health care team in identifying the psychosocial and developmental factors that impact the healthcare experience for patients and family members. This individual assesses the emotional, developmental, educational, recreational and diversionary needs of the patient and sibling. Provides developmental stimulation, therapeutic play and activities, procedural preparation, age-appropriate education, and family support to help reduce stress, increase adaptive coping, and enhance developmental growth. This role also administers individual and/or group therapeutic activities.
Responsibilities
- Assess the emotional, developmental, educational, recreational and diversionary needs of pediatric patients and their siblings.
- Provide developmental stimulation, therapeutic play, and activities.
- Prepare patients for procedures and provide age-appropriate education.
- Support families to help reduce stress and enhance developmental growth.
- Administer individual and/or group therapeutic activities.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Child Life, Child Development, Human Development, Psychology, or closely related field.
- Child Life Certification or eligibility.
- Completion of a minimum of 600 hours of a child life clinical internship under the direct supervision of a Certified Child Life Specialist.
- Previous and/or current experience working with infants, children, and adolescents.
Nice-to-haves
- Master's degree in Child Life, Child Development, Human Development, Psychology, or closely related field.
- Two years of professional experience as a Child Life Specialist.
- Bilingual skills in English/Spanish.
