About the position

The Child Life Specialist at Children's Mercy KC is responsible for assessing and addressing the psychosocial and developmental needs of pediatric patients and their families. This role involves providing education and coping support to alleviate stress and anxiety related to hospitalization and healthcare experiences. The specialist will also train and collaborate with various staff and volunteers, facilitate accredited internship and practicum programs, and contribute to the overall well-being of children in a compassionate and inclusive environment.

Responsibilities

• Generate positive behavioral, psychological, and physiological outcomes through individualized interventions with pediatric patients.
• Assess and prioritize children and families and develop comprehensive plans of care based on psychosocial risk and need.
• Represent, communicate, and teach child life services to other professionals, volunteers, students, and the community.
• Work collaboratively with all parties to achieve optimal outcomes.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree preferred.
• 1-2 years of experience preferred, or equivalent experience as a Certified Child Life Specialist.
• Must obtain Certified Child Life Specialist or equivalent within 365 days of employment.

Nice-to-haves

• Infant Massage Instructor Certification preferred.
• Recreational Therapy Certification preferred.
