About the position

The Child Nutrition Worker will work under moderate supervision to prepare and serve appropriate quantities of food to meet menu requirements. The role involves maintaining high standards of quality in food production, sanitation, and safety practices.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare quality food according to a planned menu of tested and uniform recipes.
  • Serve food according to meal schedules and student needs, including regular food items, special diets, and students with food allergies.
  • Store and handle food items and supplies safely and according to established procedures.
  • Maintain a clean and organized storage area.
  • Operate tools and equipment according to prescribed safety standards.
  • Clean linens, utensils, equipment, and storage, food preparation and serving areas to maintain required sanitary conditions.
  • Inspect food items and/or supplies for quantity, quality, and specifications.
  • Follow temperature requirements and food spoilage guidelines and report areas of concern to the manager.
  • Keep garbage collection containers and areas neat and sanitary.
  • Correct unsafe conditions in the work area and report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to the manager.
  • Maintain personal appearance and hygiene.
  • Perform functions of other CNP positions as requested by the manager.
  • Help record food requisitions and order necessary supplies.
  • Maintain daily food preparation records.
  • Promote teamwork and interaction with fellow staff members.
  • Complete annual continuing education requirements, in-service trainings, workshops, etc.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Ability to understand written and verbal food preparation and safety instructions.
  • Must be eligible to obtain a food handler's card.
  • Working knowledge of kitchen equipment and food production procedures.
  • Ability to operate large and small kitchen equipment and tools.
  • Ability to perform basic math.
  • Ability to perform duties on a flex schedule, upon approval by superintendent, in response to pandemics, natural disasters, catastrophic events, etc.
