About the position
The Child Protective Services Specialist 1 (NY HELPS) position is responsible for receiving and screening reports of suspected child abuse and maltreatment, providing technical assistance to local district staff, and ensuring compliance with Social Service Law regarding childcare and daycare positions. This role is critical in safeguarding children and supporting families in need through effective assessment and intervention strategies.
Responsibilities
- Receive reports of suspected child abuse and maltreatment via the Statewide Child Abuse and Maltreatment telephone hotline.
- Screen calls for appropriateness and evaluate the information.
- Prepare and transmit reported cases to local social service districts.
- Provide technical assistance to local district staff.
- Screen applicants for childcare, daycare, and related positions in accordance with Social Service Law.
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree or higher in a human services field.
- An associate's degree in a human services field AND two years of experience in direct provision of child protective services, including investigating reports of suspected child abuse.
- Four years of experience in direct provision of child protective services, including investigating reports of suspected child abuse.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in conducting assessments to determine child safety.
- Knowledge of Social Service Law and child protective services procedures.
