About the position

The Child Support Training & Outreach Specialist is responsible for supervising training activities within the Department of Child Support Services (DCSS). This role involves conducting needs assessments, developing training programs, and ensuring staff are well-trained in child support policies and procedures. The specialist will also engage with community organizations to promote child support services and conduct educational presentations.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise TCDCSS training activities.
  • Conduct organizational needs assessments for training.
  • Recommend acquisition of needed or upgraded training material to management.
  • Train staff in current training methods, equipment, and media.
  • Research and identify outside sources of employee training and development programs.
  • Develop, coordinate, and conduct phases of TCDCSS training programs.
  • Evaluate outside training programs for appropriate content and use within TCDCSS.
  • Organize, plan, and conduct training on various topics including skill development and software programs.
  • Conduct orientation training for new TCDCSS employees.
  • Coordinate with subject matter specialists to learn processes and understand workflow.
  • Develop and implement specialized training to meet particular needs of TCDCSS.
  • Consult with administrative and supervisory staff to evaluate the effectiveness of training programs.
  • Coordinate training schedules with TCDCSS operations.
  • Prepare cost estimates and submit justifications for training materials and presentations.
  • Develop and prepare audio-visual aids, training courses, syllabi, manuals, and other staff development materials.
  • Conduct child support related educational presentations to community and cultural groups.
  • Assist in conducting community surveys to determine child support informational needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in communication, liberal studies/arts, public relations, marketing, business administration, or related field.
  • Two years of experience in developing and preparing training materials and giving training presentations, preferably with some experience as a lead worker or supervisor.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of employee training and development, including adult learning theory.
  • Knowledge of methods, techniques, and procedures used in planning, development, delivery, and evaluation of training programs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of caseload management methods and techniques.
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and local rules governing eligibility for public assistance or child support programs.
