About the position

The Childcare Assistant at Tacoma Community College (TCC) is a part-time role focused on supporting classroom teachers by providing assistance during breaks and planning time. The position aims to meet various educational standards while fostering a nurturing environment for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. The assistant will implement developmentally appropriate practices and work collaboratively with the teaching staff to enhance children's physical, emotional, social, and cognitive development.

Responsibilities

  • Comply with DSHS requirements (WAC).
  • Implement Developmentally Appropriate Practices for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers.
  • Use guidance techniques that respect each child's individuality.
  • Work with the Lead Teacher to plan and implement appropriate curriculum.
  • Encourage language development and foster independence and self-help skills.
  • Observe each child's development and discuss findings with the Lead Teacher.
  • Function as a member of a team-oriented staff, supervising and instructing as needed.
  • Communicate with the Program Manager and Lead Teacher regarding program efficiency and child development.
  • Participate in staff meetings and in-services.
  • Assess classroom and program strengths and needs periodically.
  • Communicate with parents in a professional manner regarding their child's development.
  • Adhere to policies in the Early Learning Center Handbook and Personnel Handbook.
  • Supervise in the absence of core teaching staff.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Experience working with young children in an educational setting.
  • Knowledge of child development principles and practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with children, parents, and staff.
  • Team-oriented mindset with a collaborative approach to teaching.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Early Achievers', NAC, ECEAP, EHS, and DCYF standards.
  • Bilingual skills to communicate with diverse families.
