About the position

The Childcare Specialist is a part-time role responsible for overseeing and supervising licensed childcare programs within the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission. This position ensures compliance with county guidelines and Commission policies while providing support for the daily operations of childcare programs serving school-aged children. The specialist will manage multiple program sites, enforce health and safety regulations, and support the day camp program during summer months.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise assigned childcare sites.
  • Enforce facility/program rules and regulations to ensure compliance with licensing policies.
  • Monitor childcare activities and enforce health, safety, and nutrition requirements.
  • Explain the philosophy, policies, and regulations governing the center to visitors and parents.
  • Review applications and maintain waiting lists as appropriate.
  • Direct and operate Before/After School Care Plan methods for recreational/educational instruction and activities.
  • Recruit, select, train, and evaluate intermittent and volunteer staff in compliance with guidelines.
  • Assist with coordinating seasonal/intermittent schedules and training opportunities.
  • Give input and build marketing and retention strategies for facility services.
  • Conduct ongoing research and evaluation of childcare programming and develop new initiatives.
  • Maintain records of revenues, expenditures, and other required documentation.

Requirements

  • 21 years of age or older.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Associate's degree in early childhood education or related field plus two years of experience in a licensed early childhood program, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Completed six semester hours or 90 clock hours of approved training, or hold the Child Development Associate Credential.
  • Complete six clock hours of approved continued training every year.
  • Valid driver's license or ability to acquire one.
  • Pass a medical examination based on county health department standards for childcare employees.
  • Good moral character as determined by a background investigation.
