About the position

The Teacher's Assistant at Shenandoah University's Childcare Center is a part-time role focused on supporting teachers in creating a positive, safe, and educational environment for children. This position involves assisting with daily classroom activities, maintaining organization, and ensuring the well-being of the children in care.

Responsibilities

• Assist the director, assistant director, teachers, and assistants in daily activities and classroom needs.
• Complete book orders, dishes, and laundry as needed.
• Maintain confidentiality in all classroom interactions.
• Keep an upbeat attitude while working with children.
• Feed, diaper, and interact with all children; take children outside daily.
• Communicate with parents about their child's day.
• Clean and sanitize toys, cribs, tables, and highchairs; stock and maintain diapers, wipes, and ointment daily.
• Learn and implement licensing regulations.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Previous experience working with young children in a group childcare setting is required.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and great thinking skills.
• Ability to focus on multi-tasks and cope with high stress levels.
• Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds and have physical dexterity.
• Willingness to receive 16 in-service hours, CPR, and First Aid annually, and attend staff meetings.
