About the position

Maker Studio Kidz is a creative art studio located in Hayes Valley, San Francisco, dedicated to blending art and STEM education for children. We are seeking a passionate and enthusiastic Teaching Artist Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will support the lead art teacher in delivering engaging and educational art classes and camps for children of various ages. This role is perfect for someone who loves working with children and has a strong interest in art education. The assistant will play a crucial role in fostering a positive and inclusive environment where all children feel welcome and encouraged to express their creativity. As a Teaching Artist Assistant, you will assist the lead art teacher in preparing and organizing art materials and supplies for classes. You will help set up and clean up the studio or classroom site before and after classes, ensuring a smooth transition for each session. Providing individualized support and guidance to students during art activities is essential, as is monitoring and ensuring the safety and well-being of students at all times. You will also assist in planning and implementing age-appropriate art projects and activities that are creatively stimulating. In addition to your hands-on responsibilities, you will support the lead teacher in maintaining classroom discipline and managing behavior in a positive and constructive manner. Administrative tasks such as taking attendance and maintaining student records will also be part of your duties. Participation in staff meetings and professional development opportunities is required to enhance your skills and contribute to the overall success of our programs.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; some college coursework in art or education preferred.
  • Prior experience working with children in a classroom, camp, or similar setting.
  • Strong interest in art and a basic knowledge of various art techniques and materials.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patient, energetic, and creative with a genuine love for working with children.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and take direction from the lead teacher.
  • Reliable, punctual, and professional.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in childcare for at least 1 year.
