About the position

The Substitute Teacher at the Children's Center provides essential support to the Lead Teacher by ensuring a safe and creative environment for children while their families attend court proceedings. This role involves implementing educational activities, maintaining safety protocols, and offering community resource consultations to families. The position aligns with the agency's mission to improve lives and communities in the Hudson Valley.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the direct care and safety of the children left in the center.
  • Implements and maintains health and safety protocols and procedures.
  • Assures the center follows all program safety and confidentiality guidelines.
  • Assists with required intakes and reports.
  • Prepares and submits information for monthly reports to appropriate entities.
  • Maintains statistical records necessary for reports and research.
  • Designs and carries out curriculum and activities based on the needs and development of children.
  • Develops and implements monthly/seasonal themes and constructive activities.
  • Assists with the distribution of referral and resource information to caregivers.
  • Remains informed on current local resources and services.
  • Assesses the needs of caregivers and responds through referrals to appropriate agencies.
  • Assists the Lead Teacher in planning and coordinating the Children's Center/Supervised Visitation Advisory Committee.
  • Facilitates the completion of all required training for staff.
  • Provides appropriate, creative, supportive interactions with children in group and individual activities.
  • Participates in agency-wide and agency-appointed committees to facilitate program initiatives and services.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in early childcare/education and a minimum of 1 year of experience working with children.
  • NYS Certificate in childcare and a minimum of 2 years of experience working with children.
  • High School Diploma and a minimum of 3 years of experience working with children.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in children's programming for mixed ages.
  • Crisis management experience.
  • Knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion principles.
  • Familiarity with community resources.
