About the position

The Children's Library Associate position at the GCS Branch involves engaging with the public, providing assistance and information, and performing various library tasks. The role requires a strong commitment to customer service and the ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends. Associates are responsible for maintaining library practices, assisting patrons, and supporting library operations through various clerical tasks.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the initial point-of-contact for patrons, providing informational, directional, and reference assistance in person, over the phone, and via email.
• Provide circulation services using an Integrated Library System (ILS).
• Collect and process patron payments for fines and fees.
• Retrieve, shelve, and shift library materials.
• Assist patrons in using library equipment.
• Assist in the processing of library materials and creating thematic displays.
• Perform reader's advisory and complete 24 hours of professional development training per year.
• Respond to emergency situations as assigned by the County Manager or designee.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
• 1-2 years of customer service experience.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Suite applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams (for Library Associate II and III).
• Supervisory experience preferred for Library Associate III.

Nice-to-haves

• 2-year Associate Degree preferred for Library Associate III.
• 1-2 years of library experience.
