About the position

The Childrens Mobile Crisis Response Team Member is responsible for providing on-site crisis intervention and support services to children and adolescents experiencing serious emotional disturbances. This role focuses on de-escalating crisis situations, preventing unnecessary psychiatric hospitalizations, and connecting families with local resources. The position requires collaboration with various community agencies and involves both direct intervention and administrative duties.

Responsibilities

  • Respond on-site to mental health-related crisis situations with the Team Leader.
  • Provide crisis intervention, de-escalation, and support services to eligible children and adolescents.
  • Assess the mental health needs of children/adolescents and identify necessary resources and supports.
  • Link children/adolescents to resources and supports within the agency, DHR, and/or the community within 24 hours.
  • Document clinical charts accurately via electronic medical record.
  • Provide case updates to the MCT Coordinator during weekly staff meetings.
  • Offer case consultations and follow-up information to Jefferson County DHR for each intervention provided.
  • Perform outreach in partnership with Jefferson County DHR, local emergency departments, local police jurisdictions, juvenile court, schools, and community agencies.
  • Maintain internal communication and collaboration with MCT staff, including Coordinator, Team Leader, Therapist, Care Coordinator, and Phone Triage staff.
  • Provide transportation to children and families when appropriate.
  • Maintain data as required by the agency, DMH, and Jefferson County DHR.
  • Perform other administrative duties as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in psychology, social work, counseling, or related human services field with an emphasis on crisis intervention for children and adolescents.
  • Two years of experience working with children/adolescents with serious emotional/behavioral disturbances and their families in a community setting, with an emphasis on crisis intervention is preferred.
  • Valid Alabama driver's license and a suitable automobile for required travel.
  • Car insurance equal to or in excess of the State of Alabama standards for automobile insurance coverage.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques and de-escalation skills.
  • Knowledge of child welfare services.
  • Knowledge of psychotropic medications, including their use and side effects.
  • Ability to utilize multiple electronic and computer-based programs, including an electronic medical record system.
