About the position
The Registered Nurse in the Cancer Treatment Center at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center is responsible for delivering specialized and compassionate patient care to individuals with chronic illnesses. This role emphasizes the nursing process, including assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation, with a strong focus on psychosocial support and patient education. The nurse will work with long-term patients and must demonstrate technical skills with attention to detail, patience, and interpersonal communication. Additionally, the nurse will serve as a consultant to other nursing staff providing oncology services in an inpatient setting.
Responsibilities
- Deliver specialized patient care utilizing the nursing process.
- Provide psychosocial support through patient teaching and communication.
- Interact with chronically ill, long-term patients.
- Perform technical nursing skills with attention to detail.
- Serve as a consultant to nurses providing oncology services.
- Demonstrate ongoing professional growth.
Requirements
- Current N.Y.S. RN license required.
- Maintain BLS certification.
- ACLS certification desirable.
- ONS certification within 90 days of position start date.
- OCN certification preferred.
- Proficiency with intravenous insertion and accessing venous access devices.
- Three years of Medical-Surgical, CCU, ED or relevant nursing experience.
- Knowledge of growth and development across the lifespan.
- Sustained efforts to maintain current knowledge base regarding professional and practice issues.
- Oncology experience highly preferred.
- Proficient computer skills and ability to use oncology-based electronic medical records.
