About the position

The Church Young Adults Mentor at Camp Skylark is a full-time role focused on providing a nurturing and fun environment for campers while modeling Christ-like attitudes. This position aims to create memorable experiences for children and foster their spiritual growth through mentorship and community engagement. The mentor will work closely with campers, guiding them physically, emotionally, and spiritually, while also participating in team bonding and personal development activities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the campers assigned to you by shepherding them physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
  • Maintain the daily schedule and guide campers through drop off, rallies, activity classes, outdoor time, and pickup in a timely manner.
  • Support the program director and other staff during program activities with your attention, energy, and enforcement of the rules.
  • Assist with setup and tear down of camp equipment, signs, and activity materials each day.
  • Provide quality instruction at your assigned activity class(es) and ensure camper safety at all times.
  • Enforce all health and safety regulations and report all injuries and illnesses to the appropriate staff.
  • Follow the proper disciplinary/reporting chain when camper issues arise and use TBRI principles.
  • Be able to communicate the current mood, struggles, victories, and attitude of your campers to the Associate Director or full-time staff at any time.
  • Have one-on-one conversations with each of your campers during the week.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Camp Director.

Requirements

  • Attend mandatory Summer Staff Orientation and Training Week prior to the first week of camp.
  • Commit to serve a minimum of 6 weeks out of the summer and request weeks off ahead of time with approval from your Camp Director.
  • Work on-site at one of our locations Monday through Friday from 7:00am-5:30pm.
  • Model Christ-like attitudes and actions in and outside of camp.
  • Attend additional team bonding activities throughout the summer as scheduled by the camp director.
  • Have dependable transportation to be on time to and from your site.
  • Participate in weekly bible studies and one-on-ones as scheduled by leadership.
  • The ability to remain on your feet and participate in high-energy activities daily.
  • The ability to execute medium work that involves regularly lifting and transporting camp equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • The ability to work both inside and outside, sometimes in extreme heat conditions.
