About the position

The Aerospace Corporation is seeking a passionate engineer to lead the design of embedded digital electronics subsystems for space and ground-based prototypes. This role involves engaging with customers to define system requirements, creating PCB designs, writing FPGA firmware, and testing completed hardware. The position is part of the Experiment Lab (xLab), which focuses on developing innovative solutions to address complex challenges in the aerospace sector.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design of embedded digital electronics subsystems for space and ground-based prototypes.
  • Define system requirements in collaboration with customers and teammates.
  • Create Printed Circuit Board (PCB) designs.
  • Write FPGA firmware for various applications.
  • Test completed hardware to ensure functionality and reliability.
  • Develop strategies to enhance team capabilities and productivity in embedded system design and testing.
  • Manage system development through the entire design lifecycle, including concept, functional design, and integration and test.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering from an accredited program.
  • Two or more years of related experience in embedded systems hardware design.
  • Familiarity with standard electrical interfaces such as RS232/RS422 (UART), SPI, i2C, USB, ethernet, SpaceWire.
  • Working knowledge of ARM, PIC, RISC V, and/or Xilinx Zynq/Microblaze processors.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, requiring U.S. citizenship.
  • For Senior Member of Technical Staff: Five or more years of related experience in embedded systems design.
  • Expertise in digital or mixed-signal PCB design techniques including System on Chip (SoC), microprocessor, or FPGAs.
  • Experience with small satellite electronics design and test.

Nice-to-haves

  • High-speed digital design experience (e.g., SGMII, GigE, USB 2 or 3, PCIe).
  • Knowledge of Siemens eCAD tools (PADS Standard Plus, Expedition).
  • Understanding of test and verification techniques for complex or high-speed (1GHz+) SoCs.
