The Circulation & Access Services Assistant at the University of Michigan Library plays a vital role in providing information and assistance to patrons, ensuring that library services and resources are accessible and welcoming. This position is integral to the Library Access and Fulfillment team, serving as the first point of contact for users in the library. The assistant will work primarily in the evenings, supporting the library's commitment to diversity and inclusion while helping to maintain a safe and engaging environment for all users.

  • Provide information and answer questions for library patrons.
  • Connect patrons to library services and resources.
  • Uphold the library's commitment to accessibility and safety for a diverse community.
  • Assist in maintaining a welcoming environment in library spaces.
  • Move through the building to access materials and assist patrons.
  • Ability to work from 4 pm to 12:30 am, Sunday through Thursday.
  • Ability to navigate the library facility, including using stairs during emergencies.
  • Physical capability to move and transport materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Experience in customer service or a similar role is preferred.
  • Experience working in a library or academic setting.
  • Familiarity with library systems and resources.
  • Strong communication skills.
